The board meeting was called to order by our chair, Jeanette
Ocasio. We voted that the board meetings for HTAC
would be the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 a.m. at Panera
Bread on Cattlemen Road. Our regular meetings will be on the third
Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. at Night Life, 6240 S. Tamiami Trail,
Sarasota. Jeanette has ordered a movie, GEMS, on
domestic trafficking. She would like to show the movie at the Newtown
Recreation Center in June. She may show the film at the Newtown
Library. She wants to have guest speakers from the Florida Coalition on
Human Trafficking. Details will follow as soon as Jeanette has
organized the program. Mary Gurley will check into
prices for business cards for the members of the board of directors for
HTAC. Jane Blanchard will check online for prices for cards for us. Joyce
Raby will contact Chief Holloway and talk with him about HTAC. Jeanette
told us about working in Tampa on a HT street outreach during the week
of Gaspirilla. Pictures from Missing and Exploited Children were shown
as missing children. Jeanette and others were not allowed to approach
the pimps. Jeanette told us that this experience really helped her
understand more about HT in Florida. Jane
suggested that we do some actions to raise awareness on HT. She
suggested an activity where young girls and boys hold signs which say I
am available for $40. They stand in front of a store window with their
signs. When people apprach them, they pass out information for HT.
This event would have to be organized and supported by someone in our
organization. We suggested that we may want to
have a booth at Juneteenth, which is in the middle of June in Newtown.
Jeanette will contact Mary Mack, the leader of Juneteenth in Newtown. Meeting
was adjourned.

Mary Gurley called the meeting to order. We have decided that our first need in Sarasota for HTAC is to educate the public and the residents of Sarasota County about HT. Mary Gurley and Ginger put together a letter that we revised, and Mary is putting together with Ginger to be sent to churches, organizations, and other entities so that we can establish speaking engagements for HT. Mary and Ginger are in the process of doing the letter and getting the word out for us. Ginger has agreed to be on the board of directors for HTAC.
Ginger will also be our speaker coordinator. Ginger will be coordinating our speaking engagements. Mary's number, Ginger's number, Joyce's number, and Jane's number will be put on the list to the churches, organizations, and other entities for contact.
We are planning a possible Saturday meeting in March or April in which we will have a panel, possibly at one of the libraries. We want to have a panel of experts to inform the public about HT, and hopefully we can have some people speak about HT in Sarasota County. We will be gathering names for speakers for this panel.
At our February 19th meeting, we will have a documentary film which Jane has for our presentation. We will get the word out that this documentary film will be shown and will be discussed. We need to invite others to our meeting, like people from other organizations, doctors, nurses, people from churches, synagogues, etc.
Pat Moberg is having Jeanette Oscaio speak at the LWV presentation on Feb. 15 at noon at Night Life. The cost is $15.
Peter Aiken attended the event on HT at the Hyatt on January 21, 2011. Joyce talked with him, and he said that he is interested in speaking with us about helping us on HT in Sarasota. Peter Aiken is a lawyer who handles some HT cases.
Joyce will be contacting Jeanette about possibly serving as chairman since Derek is not able to be our chairman now due to job responsibilities. Joyce will call Jeanette and speak with her about possibly serving as our chairman of HT.
Meeting was adjourned.
Ginger will also be our speaker coordinator. Ginger will be coordinating our speaking engagements. Mary's number, Ginger's number, Joyce's number, and Jane's number will be put on the list to the churches, organizations, and other entities for contact.
